Domestic Abuse Officer (Detective Constable)

Position Available: Detective Constable – Domestic Abuse Officer (Transfer)

Salary: £41,098 – £54,445 per annum (dependent on experience)

Contract: Full time, permanent (based on island, relocation package available – enquire on application)

Red Snapper Recruitment are working with The States of Guernsey to recruit a Domestic Abuse Officer to join the Public Protection Unit at Police Headquarters in St Peter Port, Guernsey.

About the Role:

The post holder will be expected to work within the Public Protection Unit as the main focal point for Law Enforcement and other agencies, at an operational level, on all matters relating to domestic abuse. They will represent the Bailiwick of Guernsey Law Enforcement and act as the operational point of contact for agencies working within the Domestic Abuse arena, and will fulfil the role of principle investigator in such cases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To communicate the Domestic Abuse Policies across the Force and to the appropriate Agencies, to attend and participate in multi-agency forums and to raise public awareness of domestic abuse issues including involvement in media campaigns.
  • To deliver domestic abuse and child protection training courses for Police Officers and contribute to training for outside agencies.
  • To monitor and quality assure working and reporting practices regarding Domestic Abuse and to ensure a consistent and appropriate response by officers attending such incidents.
  • To research policies/practices of other Forces, analyse Home Office/College of Policing guidance, assist in the development of protocols; liaise and provide advice to other agencies to develop common policies.
  • To be the Law Enforcement representative at MARAC (Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference). The aim of such is to reduce the risk of serious harm or homicide for victims and their children.
  • To conduct crime audits, assist in developing initiatives to identify levels of domestic abuse, implement and review Niche records and complete regular statistical returns alongside the MARAC coordinator.
  • To assist (in the absence of the MARAC coordinator) to monitor the completion of Domestic Abuse risk assessments, assess the risks and provide statistical information. To undertake other Domestic Abuse responsibilities in accordance with emerging policy, law & procedures.
  • To have ownership of and comprehensively investigate ‘high risk’ domestic abuse incidents, including conducting ABE’s and suspect interviews.
  • To undertake all aspects of high-risk domestic abuse investigations including the handling and documenting information, in compliance with Data Protection, Crime Recording Standards, PPACE and RIPL.
  • Prepare and deliver third party disclosures in relation to the risk management of those who may pose a risk to an intimate partner or their children.
  • To undertake duties within other areas of Crime Services and across Bailiwick Law Enforcement and which will include assisting operational policing when necessary.

This role offers off-Island candidates an 8-year Long Term Employment Permit. This permit will also enable candidates to bring immediate family members with them who will be permitted to work on the Island in any sector. There are also good schools on Island for those candidates looking to bring their families with them.

Requirements:

Essential

  • In order to apply for this role, you must already be a Constable and have passed your probationary period within your current force. Routinely you will also be required to have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the role of Constable, however, please enquire for more information.
  • PIP 2 accredited with a proven investigative background including experience in conducting complex criminal investigations, and demonstrating a victim focused approached.

Desired

  • To have completed the NIE and the Initial Crime Investigators Course with PIP 2 accreditation.
  • A form of accredited training in Domestic Abuse.
  • Trained in Achieving Best Evidence (ABE) or a willingness to do so.
  • Valid Driving Licence.
