RSR Justice are recruiting for an experienced Probation Officer or Qualified Social Work to work as a Seconded Probation Officer in the Youth Offending Team (YOT) in Winsford, Cheshire.

We are seeking an experienced Probation Officer or Social Worker who can confidently manage their own caseload of Offenders to include high risk cases.

A Seconded Probation Officer is a mandated position within the Youth Offending Service (YOS). The role of the Probation Officer in the YOS is held in high regard and the specialism and knowledge that they bring to the team is invaluable in ensuring that young people are supported appropriately in their transfer to adult services.

This is a part time role, three days per week, or 24 hours per week, for six to twelve months initially, to cover permanent recruitment of the vacancy.

Main Duties of the Role

  • The Probation Officer holds case responsibility for the older cohort within the YOS, and within this role, undertakes assessments to determine eligibility for transfer to CRC or NPS and facilitates transitional processes and transfer between the Youth and Adult systems.
  • The Probation Officer offers guidance in regards to Section 91, MAPPA and Licence requirements as well as completing Court Reports and generic case management for young people within their caseload.

Significance of the Role

  • The transitional period between youth and adult services is crucial and poses significant challenges for maintaining compliance and continuity in intervention.
  • Retention in meaningful work and supporting young people to manage the various differences between youth and adult systems is crucial to promoting long term desistance from offending and is key at this time.

Person Specification

  • A relevant qualification - DipPS, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent of another Probation or Social Work related qualification is essential
  • You will need to possess good IT skills and be able to ensure work is completed accurately within the timescales required. You will be able to multi-agency work to ensure the needs of the offender are supported.
  • You will need a positive outlook, the ability to multi-task, a can-do attitude, and an interest in YOT activities.
  • You will be able to communicate effectively with others including court staff and offenders and have the ability to develop productive working relationships with other agencies and your team.

A current DBS check is required for this role, which we can process for you, you will also need to undergo the HMPPS Enhanced Level 1 vetting, if you do not already have it.
