About Shelter
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.

We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.

About the team
Our Accommodation Services Team helps people on probation obtain or retain settled accommodation which has been identified as a key factor in successful rehabilitation and a reduction in re-offending. We aim to deliver a comprehensive and flexible service tailored to the individual that addresses and resolves identified housing needs while taking into consideration their specific goals. We also strive to enable them to access services that will tackle issues and help them move away from reoffending and successfully reintegrate into society. This is your opportunity to help bring about positive change.

About the role
The role of Bank Accommodation Adviser involves supporting Accommodation Advisers with their caseloads and supporting with Accommodation Interventions. That means providing tailored accommodation support to men in custody and under probation supervision in the community to help them overcome barriers to obtaining secure and stable accommodation and successfully reintegrate into society. First, you’ll need to complete an Initial Needs Assessment (INA) with each service user by having a detailed discussion outlining their situation, needs and support required. You’ll also need to take a strengths-based approach to identify the positive attributes they can build upon to achieve their goals and reflect that in the design of the INA. Then, in collaboration with the service user, you’ll be able to map out and agree a set of interventions and outcomes required that will encourage and empower them to actively contribute towards their goals. The position will be based from home with travel expected across the National Probation Service (NPS) Region. You’ll also be expected to work in a prison setting and other agreed locations as required.

About you
To succeed, you’ll need good listening skills and the ability to build trust, motivate service users and promote their ability to change. You’ll also need a confident approach to achieving successful outcomes, including challenging when necessary. Adept at translating complex information into practical and personalised action plans, you understand professional boundaries too. What’s more, you’re happy to get involved in the ongoing development of the service and willing to travel as necessary. Experience of using a range of digital technology to monitor progress and record on our systems is also required.

Benefits
We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
